Building across western and central Virginia.

We are a Class A general contractor based in Roanoke, working from the Roanoke Valley out through Bedford and Lynchburg, north to Lexington and Staunton, and west into the New River Valley. If your site sits outside that, call and ask. The answer depends on the job, not the map.

What we build

More about western and central Virginia

Western Virginia is a string of valleys running southwest to northeast between the Blue Ridge and the Allegheny Front, and almost everything built here is shaped by that geography. Interstate 81 runs the length of it, from Bristol at the Tennessee line up through Wytheville, Radford, Salem, Roanoke, Lexington, Staunton and Harrisonburg toward Winchester, and the towns that matter commercially are the ones sitting on its exits. US 11 runs the same corridor a few miles off, the old road the interstate replaced, and it still carries most of the older commercial building stock in every one of those towns.

The Roanoke Valley sits at the middle of it, the largest metropolitan area in the region, with Roanoke and Salem as independent cities inside Roanoke County and Vinton and Botetourt County wrapped around the north and east. Carilion Clinic makes the valley the medical centre of this part of the state, which shapes a large share of the commercial work: medical and dental offices, clinical fit-outs, professional suites. The Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail run along the ridge above the valley, and Smith Mountain Lake sits half an hour southeast in Franklin and Bedford counties, where most of the high-end custom residential work in the region has gone.

East over the Blue Ridge, US 460 and US 221 drop into Bedford County and on to Lynchburg on the James River, a separate market of its own driven by Liberty University, Centra Health and a nuclear engineering base at BWX Technologies. West on 460 the New River Valley carries Blacksburg and Christiansburg, where Virginia Tech drives most of the construction demand, and Radford beyond them. North on 81, Lexington sits under the Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee, and Staunton opens into the Shenandoah Valley.

The practical consequence for anyone building here is jurisdictional. Virginia has independent cities that sit inside but are not part of the counties around them, so Roanoke, Salem, Lynchburg, Staunton, Radford and Covington each run their own building department, separate from Roanoke, Bedford, Rockbridge, Augusta and Montgomery counties. Two sites ten minutes apart can answer to different officials with different submittal expectations, and knowing which is which before drawings go in is most of what keeps a commercial schedule from slipping at the front end.
