Roanoke, Virginia

Our own city, and the one we know best. Commercial construction, custom homes and substantial remodels, run from an office on Peters Creek Road.

This is home. Our office sits on Peters Creek Road in the 24019. We take on new commercial construction and build-outs, custom homes, and substantial remodels and additions, with the scope and the budget priced together and the assumptions written down beside them.

What we build in Roanoke

Roanoke is one of the communities we build in across western and central Virginia. If you are building somewhere else in the region, the answer usually depends on the job rather than the distance, so it is worth a call either way.

More about Roanoke

Roanoke is an independent city of roughly one hundred thousand people in the Roanoke Valley, wrapped by Roanoke County and reached from Interstate 81 by the I-581 spur that runs down into the middle of town. US 220 carries traffic south toward Franklin County, US 460 runs west toward the New River Valley, and US 11 threads the valley floor the way it has since long before the interstate existed. Roanoke Regional Airport sits north of downtown off Towne Square Boulevard, a few minutes from our own office in the 24019.

The city is the medical centre of this part of the state. Carilion Clinic is the largest employer in the region, with Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on the south bank of the Roanoke River and a growing biomedical campus in South Jefferson that includes the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. That concentration shapes what gets built here: medical office fit-outs, clinical suites and professional buildings that have to meet a standard well above ordinary commercial work.

Downtown carries the Hotel Roanoke, the City Market, the Berglund Center and a stock of older buildings that get renovated rather than replaced. Out from the centre, Grandin Village, Old Southwest, South Roanoke and Wasena each have their own building character, and Valley View sits north near the airport where most of the newer retail and office development has gone. The Roanoke Star on Mill Mountain looks down over all of it, and the Blue Ridge Parkway runs along the ridge behind it.

For a contractor, the practical detail is that Roanoke City and Roanoke County are separate jurisdictions with separate permitting, and the city line is not always where people assume it is. An address in the 24018 is usually county; 24011 through 24017 are city; our own 24019 straddles Hollins and the northern county line. Knowing which office a set of drawings goes to, and what each one wants to see, is most of what keeps a commercial schedule honest at the front end.
